# Transformations overview

> Use JSON Schema Transformations (JSTs) to reformat JSON data between endpoints with different data formatting requirements.

Itential Platform uses **JavaScript Object Notation (JSON)** to transfer serialized data. These transfers can happen within a single Itential Platform application, between Platform applications, or between Itential Platform and external applications. When endpoints have different data formatting requirements, Itential Platform uses **JSON Schema Transformations (JSTs)** to bridge them.
